Private Interpretation

Something to ponder

The Bible says in 2 Peter 1:20:

But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture becomes a matter of someone’s own interpretation,

When you say to someone, ‘That’s your interpretation’ you are saying that the Bible is wrong and that its meaning and content are from private interpretation. You are also building the foundation that there is no right or wrong, no truth or error, and so on.

There is such a thing as good and bad doctrine, right and wrong ways to use the Bible and to determine what it says. If you use your own interpretation, you are saying God is wrong here and you are right.

You need to go for the truth as the Bible says, ‘ye shall know the truth.’ Then once you get the truth, you can correct others. But if you use your own interpretation, you are as wrong as the other person using private interpretation and not solving our theological or spiritual issues.
