A church in suburban Chicago has told parishioners it will abstain from performing any music that is associated with White people during the season of Lent.
“In our worship services throughout Lent, we will not be using any music or liturgy written or composed by white people,” the website for the First United Church of Oak Park reads. “Our music will be drawn from the African American spirituals tradition, from South African freedom songs, from Native American traditions, and many, many more.”
This is not a Christian nor a biblical act. Churches should not be carried away by the unbelieving world’s futile attempts to make the world less racist, etc. Their solution is to make it more unequal and more racist.
The Church needs to lead the unbelieving world to the truth and practice it even when the unbelievers scream and holler. We do not do our faith any good when we compromise it and adapt to or adopt secular thinking.
We do not care what denomination is doing this or that church belongs to. If it claims to be a part of the Christian faith and follow Christ, then it should act like it. And it should preach the truth, not lead its people to sin.
Discriminating against white people is still discrimination and wrong. The church is to find ways that please God not the unbelieving world. The latter is in deep do-do and should not be imitated or followed.
Stand with God or stop using the title Christian or church.
