Applying Scripture

We have done many articles recently using two non-Christian websites as a source for our topics. It is not wrong to do so and we may address more of the issues they raise n future articles.

What is important though, is how to respond to these people. One of the keys to approaching those that either do not believe or did believe and turned away from their salvation is that they do not accept God’s definitions, God’s thinking, nor anything to do with God.

That makes it very tough to deal with because they will avoid the truth as much as possible. Take for example, the post we wrote yesterday, Meerkat Musing’s owner did not accept the fact that telling a person the truth is love. He wrote at this link the following:

why it matters, and why intolerance dressed as love is still intolerance

That is because he rejects God’s definition of love, replacing it with his own limited version. It is a long process taking patience and love to get such people to see what true love really is:

Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous; love does not brag, it is not arrogant. It does not act disgracefully, it does not seek its own benefit; it is not provoked, does not keep an account of a wrong suffered, it does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; it [b]keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (1 Cor. 13)

God’s love tells everyone to forsake evil, wrong behavior, and so on. However, only God defines those categories and places different actions in each category. Star Trek and unbelievers do not have the authority or power to change that categorization.

All they can do is create something that continues to corrupt people and leaves them in their sin. They call it by other terms but it certainly is not love. Then there is Bruce and his views on abortion (We are tired of trying to type his last name). He says at this link:

Anti-abortionists are only pro-life when it comes to the unborn. They will go to the ends of the earth to protect human zygotes and unborn fetuses, but once babies are born, anti-abortionists lose all interest in their welfare outside of throwing a few diapers and cans of formula the way of new mothers…

…This is why it is impossible for those of us who support a woman’s right to an abortion to find common ground with anti-abortionists.

It is impossible for Christians to talk to unbelievers and quitters because they have a low view of human life and think it is okay for women to murder or kill. They change the concept of an unborn child in hopes of relieving any guilt or regrets from disposing of human life for selfish reasons.

A woman has no right to kill anyone including an unborn child. Pro-abortionists do not have the power or authority to change the status of the unborn child. The pregnancy period is God’s choice and life starts at conception no matter what sinful term is used to describe it.

These are the situations where applying scripture correctly will help believers focus their energies on topics and issues that really matter. That application takes correct discernment.

First, you have to discern if it is really God leading you to interact with these people. Then if that is so, you need to discern which scriptures will help you in that interaction. Both steps are governed by your going to your prayer closet and praying.

You will need prayer to protect you from the subtle attacks of unbelievers and those that turn away. Then you need to ask for wisdom and understanding to tackle the interaction. Having the correct knowledge will help as well.

One of the biggest complaints atheists have had over the years is that believers do not know anything or they know very little. Getting the right knowledge is not wrong as your ability to discern will help you use that knowledge with God’s help in a manner that is effective and convincing.

Bruce tends to complain a lot when evangelicals make comments on his website about his desire to return to the faith and so on. Those comments are not very discerning as they ignore what Hebrews says in chapter 6:

For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame

Sometimes it is best to ignore such people and just use what they write on their blogs as teaching tools to show believers what to watch out for. Remember that unbelievers will camouflage their deceptive thoughts with a lot of truth.

For example, in the quote above Bruce mentions that right to life people are only right to be born advocates. That is true in many circumstances. He wasn’t the first to say it, as Robin Williams said it before him and we may have beaten him to that fact as well.

But that fact does not mean we stop being anti-abortion supporters. We just have to broaden our methods and reach more people through a better strategy that only God can give. Also, the Bible does not say to focus on saving the unborn only. They are plenty of other innocent people;e who need our help.

That is where discernment comes in. Knowing which strategies to use and where to apply them will help make you a better success for God than ignoring God’s instructions in hopes of saving those who cannot be saved anymore.

When you get the correct discerning powers, you will notice that the unbeliever, etc. will think they have been enlightened, that they came to the truth, and that they alone can make determinations for everyone else.

As you saw in yesterday’s article, they even want a world where God and Christians are not included. Not only is that hate-filled but forgetful. Those people who want such a universe, forget that societies without God do not bring a moral civilization.

Even Star Trek’s universe had laws and those that broke those laws. So what they are truly saying is that they want laws, morals, etc., but only if God is not a part of those constructions.

Those people also forget that the laws they construct are not objective but personal. Someone may disagree with them and then the situation just becomes what we have already- an imperfect world because no one is listening to God.

As we said in the first part of our 3 part series on Bruce’s posts, these people have nothing to offer anyone except the same old thing everyone is tired of having.

Then when you have good discernment that God wants you to have, you can see where discussing with both groups of unbelievers is pointless and a waste of time. When we said in yesterday’s post that there is no such thing as racism. Meerkat’s response was:

Whoa, what?! Racism does not exist?! Tell that to the victims of the Tulsa Massacre. Tell that to Daunte Wright, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd. Say that to the victims of South Africa’s brutal apartheid regime.

Not only has God stated very clearly that there is only 1 human race, but science has also confirmed that fact. Discernment tells you that it is a waste of time to talk to people who will not listen to the truth and then distort the situations they are using as an example.

When unbelievers appeal to science to support their views, then reject science when it goes against them, there is no point in talking to these people until they get rational.

The Tulsa massacre and South Africa’s apartheid era was not about racism, it was about hatred for people who were different Hatred is a sin and that makes those situations a spiritual issue and nothing else.

27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise.

This verse is often used erroneously to claim that there are no separate roles for men and women. Those people missed the mark as it only confirms what God has said. The deceived unbelievers see things that are not there.

We see the truth that there is only one human race and not the 4 Darwin and other evolutionary thinkers claim there is. We see that the problems of the world are related to the sin nature and the only solution is Christ and his ways.

Dark is the hour for those of us who support a woman’s right to choose, but we must not give in or lose hope. We must continue to fight, pushing back at every turn, until the gains made by anti-abortionists are overturned — either through legislatures or the judicial system.

Discernment tells us that the unbeliever and those that turned away from the faith are thoroughly deceived and we must take seriously the topic of spiritual warfare as our battle is not against these people. it is against the forces of evil.

That takes everything out of the categories unbelievers create into the spiritual world. Discernment lets us know that everything is a spiritual battle, a spiritual issue, and as long as those who turn away from God continue to fight against him and lying to their readers and listeners, we have a tough battle ahead.

Discernment helps us change our strategies and compels us to apply scripture correctly so we can handle these situations as God wants. ‘Go ye into all the world’ does not mean ‘go and be stupid’ letting your own ideas run the show.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight. (Prov. 3)

This passage does not mean you do not get knowledge, wisdom, or understanding. Nor does it mean you do not have to learn how to apply scriptures or approach unbelievers in the wrong manner.

You are to lean on God to get to the right ways to apply scriptures so you will be protected from what evil throws your way. Finally, one more example

David won’t accept people who don’t share his divisive ideals; for that matter David won’t accept any position that exists outside of his ultra-literal interpretation of the Bible. Since he is unprepared to accept viewpoints outside of his own, does this not make him the hypocrite?

No, we are not hypocrites because we are doing what God says to do. We do not listen to unbelievers because the Bible instructs us not to; we do not accept sinful positions because they are wrong and sinful; we do not have ultra-literal interpretations because we are doing what Christ said to do- know the truth.

Meerkat is upset because his ideas are being rejected and he has no say in the Christian way of life. But he rejects God and his ways so why should he expect to be accepted when he attacks the very belief of those he wants to accept his views?

It is neither rational nor logical and discernment lets you know that and that he is doing nothing but trying to ruin Christian lives and get them sent to hell. He may not realize that is what is taking place but Christians with discernment see it very clearly.

Bruce is the same way. He wants his views to be accepted but he will reject anything to do with God, the Bible, and Christianity. The two are hypocrites because they say one thing but in reality, act differently from what they say.

For the Christian, you need to learn to apply scriptures correctly, not just memorize them, but learn what God meant by what he said, go with the truth, and avoid discussions that will waste your time, damage your faith, and tire you out.

          1. Well, let’s see David – when I asked you if you would kill me if God commanded it, you gave a roundabout answer that didn’t actually address the question, then claimed you had answered it. It’s a yes or no question and you failed to give a yes or no answer.

          2. When I answer people they do not believe me. Just take the recent article about answering comments. I answered honestly and they still attacked me and said I did not do what I did. I answered that question but he refuses to accept the answer so he keeps harassing me about it. This is another problem with people who do not believe. They refuse to accept the truth and keep accusing you of things you have not done except in theirown minds.

          3. You didn’t answer. Stop pretending you did. God killed Er (Genesis 38:7, look it up) for no reason. That wasn’t punishment, it was murder. God also tells others to kill on a regular basis. They commanded Moses to slaughter the Canaanites. Deuteronomy 2:33-36, God orders the destruction of entire communities, and Deuteronomy 7:2, repeats this instruction. In 1 Samuel 15:2-3 God orders Saul to destroy the Amalekites, including infants and ‘sucklings’, which I read as meaning BABIES.

So, given God’s willingness to command others to kill (despite your claims that God doesn’t give such commands), I will ask you again, YES OR NO, would you kill me if God commanded it?

          4. He admits now that I gave him an answer. Sadly for him, that answer does not change. He seems to equate the od of the Bible with allah of the quran and cannot separate the two.

          5. Are you unaware of the speech marks that denote sarcasm? Your ‘answer’ wasn’t an answer, it was an evasion, and my quotes are from the Bible. Biblical quotes demonstrate that God has ordered people to kill for the most cruel and flimsy of reasons. Would you kill me if God commanded it? Answer the question instead of hiding from it?

          6. I do not listen to people who reject the Bible and its author, refusing to live by their words, and who use the Bible to bully, harass, and browbeat believers who do. Nor do I jump to their demands.

          7. Hmm, yet earlier you claimed to be more tolerant than me. Was that also a lie David? Were you not demanding an answer to question of whether or not governments should provide healthcare? Don’t even get me started on the numerous passive-aggressive comments.
