One of the things that is troubling is when the Pastoral staff implements secular ideas even though they have divine commands already guiding those areas they use secular thought. One example of this is the introduction of Political Correctness in the church. The Pastor already has scripture governing the treatment of others, they do not need the aid of the unchurched world.
Another example is the introduction of female pastors. The secular world demands more and more businesses to install female leadership. Again Pastors, churches and denominations have divine commands telling them who can or cannot lead the church. Those biblical instructions get ignored in favor of pleasing the secular world. This is not correct nor is it of God.. God expects his followers to obey him over secular culture. God’s rules were not written for them to be ignored or swept aside in favor of secular ideas and rules.
Another troubling area is how some pastors and churches ignore government rules on church construction and other legitimate oversight by the government. These Pastors claim that government agencies do not have jurisdiction over the church’s construction or other actions. Governments do have the right and jurisdiction over certain church activities. They get to enforce building codes and other pertinent laws like parking requirements and traffic control guidelines.
These rules do not interfere with biblical instruction. This means that they cannot be ignored by the Pastoral staff. We see the example of Abraham, who did certain actions following secular cultural rules– buying a field, finding a wife for Issac and so on. Those rules did not interfere with God’s instructions to Abraham and Abraham did ignore secular rules when they conflicted with or contradicted God’s instructions.
This is the key. Pastors and other believers need to learn when the right time and the right secular rules can be ignored. God gives governments some leeway in governing and the same freedom of choice that he gave all people. Governments are free to choose which path they will follow– God’s or their own. Pastors and other Christians need to exercise real discernment, not blind obedience to secular rules and actions. They have to make sure that the government’s actions are in line with God’s word or if those rules are leading people to sin.
The Pastors then need to instruct their people on the right course of action and prepare them for the government’s response.
