What inspires this post today, along with God, is the following blog post
Do You Know Everything Jesus Said About Homosexuality?
The answer provided by that blog to that question is:
He didn’t say anything.
There are several problems with that answer. First, Jesus does not have to speak specifically on every topic known to mankind for it to be divinely addressed. We know that homosexuality was an issue during the first century for homosexual preferences is not a modern invention. How thick would the gospels be if Jesus had to address every contentious point raised by those who do not want to follow God’s way.
Second, the four gospels are not the only divinely inspired works of the NT. There are 23 other books equally inspired containing God’s instruction to his followers. Every topic does not have to be addressed in the 4 gospels to be divinely addressed. God had other writers handle the load. They tell us God’s message on that issue.
Third, Jesus did actually address h=the issue of same-sex marriage and alternative sexual preferences when in Mt. 19 he said:
Mt 19:4 haven’t you read, he replied, that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female,
Mt 19:5 and said, for this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh
Mt 19:6 So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.?
He made it clear that sexual unions were to be heterosexual. He does not have to talk specifically about an issue and still be addressing it.
Fourth, and this may be an argument from silence but it is a loud silence, Jesus never overturned any OT passage condemning same-sex relations or stated that his father had changed his mind about same-sex relations to be an abomination. Why does Jesus have to be redundant when the OT speaks loudly and clearly on the issue? Jesus never invalidated the OT but repeatedly affirmed or supported what was said in those books, especially the Torah.
By not overturning God’s prohibition on same-sex relations Jesus spoke volumes on the issue.
So don’t get confused when opponents to biblical instruction state that Jesus never said anything on a subject. He doesn’t have to and he probably did in some way if we examine God’s word honestly.
