Nuggets From The Epistles- 4

22 Nov

#1. 1Jn 1:6 If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.

That is continuing to practice sin, not one sin here and there

#2. 1Jn 2:16 For everything in the world the cravings of sinful man,  the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does comes not from the Father but from the world.
1Jn 2:17 The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God  lives forever.

Strive to honestly and correctly d what the Bible teaches

#3. 1Jn 2:23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also

If they say Jesus is not the Son of God, the Messiah then they are not of God

#4. 1Jn 3:6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning.  No one who continues to sin has either seen him  or known him.

Our desire for sin goes

#5. 1Jn 3:13 Do not be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.

We always have enemies

#6.1Jn 4:1 Dear friends,  do not believe every spirit,  but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Believers can be and are fooled thinking something is from God when it is not. If the instruction leads you to disobey or alter God’s word then it is not of God

#7. 1Jn 4:18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

This is why we do not fear persecution or death

#8. 1Jn 5:2 This is how we know  that we love the children of God:  by loving God and carrying out his commands.

correct obedience is key

#9.1Jn 5:21 Dear children,  keep yourselves from idols.

They come in many forms and be careful not to misidentify or accuse others wrongfully of following idols. Your opinion may not be correct.
