They Do Not Have A Better Way

15 Jun

Since I may not be consistent this week in posting I felt another look at some of K.Knight’s words is appropriate. Again I will go to her article on the Duggars found at:

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/kimberlyknight/2015/05/regarding-the-duggars-are-you-part-of-the-problem-or-part-of-the-solution/

and here is what i want to address:

Today, right now, I am choosing to be part of the solution rather than an ambulance chasing, click-whore blogger who profits off of (and sometiems perpetuates) the suffering of others.

The good news is, we can all be part of the solution. In the case of the Duggars and in the presence of others who’ve suffered sexual abuse we can:

RADICALLY OPEN our hearts.

ACTIVELY LISTEN to the stories of the abused.

GENTLY ASK how we can help.

WORK HARD to learn about survivor resources in our communities.

REPEATEDLY DEMAND that all abusers face the consequences of their actions.

DILIGENTLY SEEK to stop the cycle of abuse.

And if we really want know WWJD –

We must FAITHFULLY STAND on the side of the least of these and TIRELESSLY SPEAK truth to power all the way to the cross. And beyond.

I will quote it in sections to make comprehension much easier but as you can see by the quick overview, she really is not offering any answers to any problem and she is not part of the solution but is spreading confusion by her generality and failure to cite any real authoritative work or divine being to support her ideas. They are her ideas alone and that is not enough to allow her to interfere with anyone’s problems let alone the Duggars’.

RADICALLY OPEN our hearts.

The first question is, open our hearts to what? Some human authored subjective idea that may or may not address the issue fairly, justly and so on. Whose ideas will we use for I will tell you that not everyone is going to agree on what our hearts should be open to. If God isn’t in the picture and his ways adhered to then, we will just have another mess to clean up.

ACTIVELY LISTEN to the stories of the abused.

Why? What will that accomplish?  It may allow for emotions to rise and distort justice and fairness but it does little to help bring the offender to repentance. it also allows for the situation to be distorted and give people the wrong idea of what actually took place. Then who is to do the listening and will the rest of the nation accept those peoples as the authoritative listeners? Will the listeners be honest, wise, just and fair, and so on? Too many questions arise with that idea and none of them lead to any real solutions.

GENTLY ASK how we can help.

Again, this may help the victim(s) a little but it also opens the helpers up to being used by the victims to get revenge or take advantage of the help offered. No, the victims need to be led to what is the correct way to respond to what happened to them. They are not given the keys to the kingdom simply because they are victims. There is a right and wrong way to handle these matters and Knight seems to ignore right and wrong in favor of her ideas. Victims need to learn the right way to go and not encouraged to sin in retaliation. Victims have to follow God’s instructions as do those who seek to bring justice to the issue.

WORK HARD to learn about survivor resources in our communities.

This is meaningless as those supposed resources may not be Christian and advocate something that is not of God, nor just (and so on). It is clear that while Knight claims to be a Christian, she leads no one to God and his ways in response to this issue. All believers should be equipped to handle these problems correctly or know another believer who can.

The Bible does touch upon sexual assault and other crimes for both the victim, the offender and those who are observers, yet she cannot point to one scripture and that makes her ideas all the more tragic and useless.

REPEATEDLY DEMAND that all abusers face the consequences of their actions.

Again we must ask, whose consequences will we use to deal with this issue? Knight and many others have already rejected the Duggars’ way so why would we be repeatedly demanding the offender face the consequences when no one can agree on what those consequences entail? What we should be calling for is for true justice, fairness, etc., to be administered and have those methods governed by honesty, forgiveness, understanding, love and so on.

As we have seen by her biased views in that article, we cannot count on alternative believers or the unbeliever to meet those standards.

DILIGENTLY SEEK to stop the cycle of abuse.

How? We have spent centuries ‘diligently seeking to stop’ murder, rape, theft, assault and many other crimes yet they still abound today so her idea is moot and without merit. If one wants to stop ‘the cycle of abuse’ then one needs to go to the source of the issue and that is the sin nature and this is something the Duggars did do and the abuse stopped. We must ask Knight why is she so against a solution that worked according to her ideas? The Duggars dealt with their son’s sin nature and now he has not re-offended in 12 years so Knight really cannot get angry nor complain.

Dealing with sin means bringing in God and his ways not some subjective human idea.

And if we really want know WWJD –

We must FAITHFULLY STAND on the side of the least of these and TIRELESSLY SPEAK truth to power all the way to the cross. And beyond.

We know what Jesus would do. He would say ‘ye who are without sin cast the first stone’ and he would be talking to the opponents of the Duggars not to the Duggars themselves. Who are the least of these in this issue? The victims got help and they learned how to forgive and heal thus mission accomplished but Knight must be upset because the Duggars did not do it her way. Then we must ask how can those who do not know the truth, ‘tirelessly speak truth’?

So far we have not seen Knight speak one word of truth in her article and her ‘solution so how can she ‘power anyone to the cross’ when she cannot point the way herself? No her generalities fail because she is not taking anyone to the cross or even the Bible. She is just sinning against the Duggars and every Christian by her words and actions.

Just so everyone knows, I posted a link on Knight’s website to this and the previous article and invited her to rebut if she wanted to.
