Transgender & The Bible

04 Jun

Bruce Jenner has caused a firestorm with his very public announcement and photo shoot.  I am refusing to call him by his new female name and  by any feminine pronouns because Jenner is still a man. He has not transitioned into a woman no matter what he does to himself. There is an interesting article on this issue found in the Christian Post from 2 years ago

http://www.christianpost.com/news/what-does-the-bible-say-about-trans-gender-identity-105311/

which the person of focus misuses scripture to justify their decision to alter their original gender. But I think the best verse that describes the issue of people changing their gender identity comes from 2 Thess. 2:11

For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false,

Like homosexual tendencies, the feeling that one’s body is not meeting their gender identity is part of this delusion and also influenced by evil. I say the latter because changing one’s gender identity is a perversion, non-natural, and an opportunity to get back at God and say he made a mistake in constructing you. Ps. 139:13 supports that last point:

For You formed my [i]inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb.

The person who thinks that they are another gender identity are living under a delusion and they need to get help when it first appears or they run the risk of doing what Jenner did and mutilate themselves in order to appear happy and complete. As far as I can see, there is nothing of God in the idea of transgender. We do not see it supported in any biblical passage as a third option. But as has been discussed in that article, a Eunuch doe snot alter their gender identity thus that office or stature cannot be used to justify altering one’s personal appearance to fit what they think is the right gender they should be seen as.

To encourage those people to pursue their supposed happiness is wrong, we should be taking steps to get them correct spiritual help before it is too late as soon as we can but we should not condemn them. Instead we need to treat them as Jesus would want in accordance with biblical teaching.  Being a friend to a transgender does not mean one supports them or encourages them to think that way or even participate sin that sin. Rather that friendship can provide the gospel, wise counsel, help when they are in trouble and so on. Jesus was a friend to sinners, he did not encourage them to sin nor support their sinful attitudes or behavior.

There are a lot of articles out there discussing Bruce Jenner’s transformation, some good, some bad, some supporting and some against. I cannot go through them all but will link a few here and speak on the odd point or two as I go.

#1. http://www.patheos.com/blogs/formerlyfundie/why-youre-completely-unable-to-judge-caitlyn-jenner-or-anyone-else/

You may noticed that I linked to this post yesterday but some of his points are so ridiculous and laughable it needs to be looked at again.

First, you’d need to know with the full knowledge of God that Caitlyn is sinning by being transgender.

We know it is sinful because it is a lie.  The person is lying about who they are and their own bodies shows that they are lying.

Additionally (if you could prove the first point, which you can’t), you’d need to know with absolute certainty that Caitlyn simply chose to be transgender of her own free will, as an act of rebellion against God.

No one forced Jenner to switch his gender identity. he made the decision all by himself. That author is deluding himself if he thinks this is a point that stops believers from saying Jenner and transgenders are wrong. Oh and I did prove the first point, so it can be done. Since God made Jenner a man we know this transition is rebellion against God’s design for him.

Only God knows why Caitlyn is transgender, and therefore, only God can judge (a) if she’s sinning or not, and (b) if she has any level of culpability in it.

Uhm…that author forgets that God does inform his people why other humans switch their gender identity. God is not silent and no one is judging Jenner but simply stating that he is deluded, sick and wrong. They are stating a fact, a truth and that is not judging but identifying the problem.

Just as Big Brother thinks it can force people to accept that 2 + 2 = 5, so trans activists want us to chant: ‘Bruce Jenner is a woman and has always been a woman, even when she was producing sperm, impregnating women, and winning gold medals in men’s sports.’ And the small matter of Bruce’s birth certificate, his proven paternity of children? Forget all that; shove it down the memory hole.

I liked a lot of points that were made in that article, save for one in the last paragraph and it does provide everyone with a good perspective on what is taking place in this issue with Jenner and other transgenders. If GLAAD and other homosexuals are behind this change we then have more evidence that God is not approving of gender identity change or self-mutilation.

I think this article is blunt and to the point but take it with a grain of salt as I doubt a believer wrote it.

#3. http://www.theblaze.com/contributions/calling-bruce-jenner-a-woman-is-an-insult-to-women/

Calling Bruce Jenner a Woman Is an Insult to Women

And I agree, as well as add all other men who have changed their gender identity. Women deserve better than this but then so do men as I think all women transitioning to men is an insult to men as well. Women you are not men so do not try to be one, even if you are not experiencing transgender feelings.

What he most closely resembles is a mentally disordered man who is being manipulated by disingenuous liberals and self-obsessed gay activists. Far from having the appearance of a genuine woman, he reminds me of someone who is being abandoned to his delusions by a culture of narcissistic imbeciles. I feel a great deal of compassion when I gaze upon this tragic sight — especially because post-op “transgenders” very often regret their decision, and in many cases attempt suicide — but few share my love or concern for him.

Even though this is blunt, it is to the point and allows the rubber to meet the road, so I like it.

He says that he hasn’t decided if his second persona will start sleeping with men, but he’s not focused on that right now

That confession makes him a homosexual and by those words we have all doubt removed about transgender being a sin or not. It is a sin for it is going after unnatural and Romans 1 can be applied to this issue showing that it is sin, especially the words I placed in bold.

26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is [r]unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing [s]indecent acts and receiving in [t]their own persons the due penalty of their error.

28 And just as they did not see fit [u]to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,

#4. http://www.christianpost.com/news/caitlyn-jenner-to-receive-coveted-espn-courage-award-last-three-winners-are-gay-lesbian-and-transgender-139925/

ESPN announced this week that Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce, will receive the Arthur Ashe Courage award at the ESPYS on July 18. In what is becoming ground zero for sexual identity courage awards, the last three winners of the ESPN award identify as gay, lesbian and transgender.

I agree with a poster on another website who said that this is not courageous and mocks what Arthur Ashe stood for and the real purpose of this award. ESPN does that and mocks God at the same time. What really would be courageous is if Jenner had sought help and overcame this delusion instead of succumbing to it. Jenner basically raised the white flag and surrender and giving up is never courageous.

#5. http://www.christianpost.com/news/sbc-president-ronnie-floyd-calls-bruce-jenners-transition-to-caitlyn-sad-no-such-thing-as-gender-neutral-he-says-139916/

Arkansas pastor Ronnie Floyd, who also serves as president of the Southern Baptist Convention, the world’s largest Baptist denomination, called Bruce Jenner’s recent transition into a woman named Caitlyn “sad” during a fiery sermon at the five-branch Pinnacle Cross Church on Sunday.
Floyd, who has been senior pastor of Pinnacle Cross Church since 1986 and has close ties to the famed Duggar family, delivered a scathing sermon in which he denounced Jenner’s transgender move. He said “gender is not fluid” and reiterated that God does not make mistakes.

I like the remarks this pastor said in that article I just hope that he applies them to everyone equally and does not play favorites.

#6. http://www.christianpost.com/news/canadian-human-rights-tribunal-may-drop-gender-from-birth-certificates-after-complaints-by-transgender-intersex-activists-139863/

In a complaint filed by the Trans Alliance Society and several transgender and intersex individuals, the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal has agreed to consider dropping gender categories on birth certificates, which may give “false information,” activists say.

Last week, the National Post of Canada published a story detailing the complaints of transgender individuals and activists who believe possible “false information” based on a quick inspection of the genitals is discriminatory.

“Birth certificates (may) give false information about people and characterize them in a way that is actually wrong, that assumes to be right, and causes people … actual harm,” said Morgane Oger, chair of the Trans Alliance Society. “It’s considered true and infallible when it isn’t,” she added.

The Trans Alliance Society lie of course as the Birth certificate provides the correct information of the person’s birth, including their original gender. The only people causing harm to anyone in this issue are those who believe they are of another gender than that of their original birth.  They bring the suffering upon themselves because they desire something that is not natural and then demand that others accept and support their delusions forcing change to legal and other vital documents.

They are the cause of their problems because they do not seek help but give in to evil and its influences.

#7. http://www.christianpost.com/news/caitlyn-jenner-transformation-wont-change-who-bruce-was-as-a-father-says-franklin-graham-139922/

The Rev. Franklin Graham, the son of renowned evangelist Billy Graham and president of international relief organization Samaritan’s Purse, took to Facebook this week to let his followers know that Olympic gold medalist and “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star Bruce Jenner’s transformation into a woman named Caitlyn will not change who he is on the inside or improve his relationship with his children.

I agree with Graham here. All Jenner has done is successfully mutilated himself and changed his outward appearance. He can no more change into a woman than a dog can change into a cat after it has been raised by cats.

Bruce always had to tell a lie, he was always living that lie. Every day he always had a secret. From morning until night. Caitlyn doesn’t have any secrets. As soon as the Vanity Fair cover comes out, I’m free,” said Jenner in a promo video for the magazine.

No, he is deceived.  He is living a lie right now as his female identity and he showed how weak he really was when he failed to get help for his ‘secret’.

I think this gives you a good overview of the stories out there on this ‘transformation’ and will help you in coming to your own views on this issue. One of the ways to stop your children from falling to this delusion or the idea that they are homosexual is to have great communication with them and provide them the security and confidence they need in order for them to freely talk to you about what is bothering them.

Then do not dismiss what they say but ask God for guidance, patience, wisdom and so on in order to guide your children through their struggles to the correct biblical solution. The parent is the first defense against these delusions and evil’s influence. Do not listen to alternative believers on this or any issue as they are as deceived and deluded as homosexuals and transgender people. The key to this issue is to remember that people suffering from transgender feelings are God’s creation and they need to be treated correctly so that they can be healed. We do not need to drive more people from the church by handling the topic badly.

Transgender is sin but it is not the unforgivable sin.
